This is a drawing Ilunga reworked from an old style advertisement by Harry. H. Sparks circa, 1800s. Ilunga changes the words in the layout and text in order to emphasize the disruption of old narratives. The original text reads "coon coon coon" which was a derogatory term used for black minstrels, during the industrial revolution and mass media print propaganda era. Ilunga replaces the minstrel and positions herself as all three characters, who have large bow ties and a top hat. Their eyes are perfect circles and the last in the row has veins popping out of it's eyes and blood running out of its eye socket and smile. Ilunga replaces "The great success by Eddie Leonard, & Morris Manley, from the south." with "Great success for the Ilunga clan." As well as "Introduced and sung by Lew Dockstaber" with "Introduced and sung by the 2021 revolution!" Ilunga also change sparks' original text "words by Gene Jefferson music by Leo Friedman" with "words by self-actualization Music by Time & Space..." as well as "Harry. H. Sparks Music Publisher Star Edition Toronto Canada" with the words "Sensory Distortion, Indigo edition, DRC Congo." These alterations on the original advertisement for a musical event attempts to reclaim and reestablish what it means to experience the history of 'blackness' these images that are harmful to the collective psyche could help us start to create our own versions of history. as survivors of atrocious psychological profiling.
