Ilunga's art practice centers on exploring the nuances of the self and the world around us, utilizing portraiture, historical figures, and collage techniques to create dreamlike and surreal paintings. Her works are riddled with hidden meanings and invite the viewer to question their relationship with their environment and explore different states of consciousness.

The series "EAU" from 2017 delves into the mind-body-spirit relationship, archetypes, vulnerability, and expanding consciousness. In 2018, Ilunga's focus shifted to the representation of the Black female body in mainstream visual culture and its impact on the psyche. Inverted filters and imagined alter ego archetypes, such as 'Ndayene,' were utilized to create unique and thought-provoking pieces like "Une" and "Trios."

Ilunga's creative process involves a careful balance of various mediums, including collaging, oil and acrylic paints, and graphite powder, to achieve a surreal and dreamlike quality in her work. Her paintings encourage the viewer to see themselves in the portrayed characters and question their understanding of the self and their environment.
