"Ce n'est pas un Cerveau," meaning "This is not a Brain" in French, draws inspiration from René Magritte's "ce n'est pas un serie," where everyday objects are depicted, emphasizing that they are mere representations rather than the objects themselves. This triptych serves as a visual reminder of the three distinct brains present in the human body. It prompts contemplation on whether we truly utilize our brains in their traditional intended manner or if we are captivated by a pseudo-obsession with the human brain, overlooking the fact that these 'brains' govern our reactions to the environment.
The drawing focuses on the Cephalic brain, located in the head, comprising an astounding 86 billion neurons. This brain serves as the center for language, cognition, consciousness, and creativity. It recognizes, assigns meaning, and weaves narratives. The triptych invites viewers to reflect on the profound role of this brain, showcasing the thought processes of "I Think," "I Reckon," and "I Understand."
"Ce n'est pas un Cerveau" challenges conventional perceptions and raises questions about the true nature and potential of our cognitive abilities. By referencing Magritte's concept, it encourages a deeper exploration of the complex interplay between our brains, consciousness, and the ways in which we engage with the world around us.
