"Perdu dans la Traduction" is based on a family photograph from the Ilunga family archive. It portrays six figures traveling in a taxi after participating in community engagement art classes at the Bag Factory. The image reflects the challenges faced by refugees and immigrants in Johannesburg during the early 2000s, despite the existence of a close-knit community. The title, which translates to "Lost in Translation," speaks to the difficulties of communication and understanding between different cultures and languages. Ilunga's work challenges us to recognize the importance of clear communication and mutual understanding in promoting empathy and respect for refugees and immigrants.
