"Subconscious Cosmos" challenges the viewer's perception of reality through a combination of collaging, hyper-realistic detail, and distortion. Ilunga's personal reflection is evident in the figure of a woman with a crucifix through her chest, bleeding into a red cloth, symbolizing a symbolic death and rebirth through self-awareness and analysis. The Renaissance-style center detail features implied silhouettes of two female figures, while the cloth magnifies on the right side. Multiple virus-like amoebas fly around various mouths, including a floating black Jesus. Hands subtly blend into the dark abyss on the left, with three Marmite labels resting at the bottom of the composition. Despite the chaotic overall composition, the artwork's aesthetic appeal draws viewers in to explore the deeper imagery portrayed, which critiques how existing connotations are reinvented through imagery manipulation.
