Collection: The Moon as

Ilunga's art practice in 2019 revolved around her personal journey of self-discovery and healing. Through various mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and performance, she explored her traumatic experiences and delved into her subconscious to confront uncomfortable feelings related to mental illness, hereditary entrapment, and self-acceptance.

Her work is characterized by Afrofuturist aesthetics and features nude female figures, moons, and portraits that represent her battles and victories. Inspired by psychological theories and existentialism, Ilunga recorded her intuitive feelings of urgency, collective consciousness, and rebirth, using dream analysis, shadow work, and manifestations as tools.

The moon became a potent symbol of strength and expansion for Ilunga, inspiring her to create the Moon Series triptych. Each moon is uniquely rendered with its own characteristics and themes, reflecting the changes in her life and the evolving moon cycle. Through her art, Ilunga aims to convey the importance of confronting uncomfortable feelings and embracing the journey towards self-discovery and healing.
